1. Next Tuesday is March 4th (march forth) National Day of Action and the MTA and the NEA are asking for education professionals to host walk-ins to show solidarity against the impending changes from the federal government. From the MTA:
"Our growing fight to protect our schools and colleges from the assaults from the federal administration continues on March 4. We are asking all of you to host “walk-ins” at your schools and on your campuses in the morning, so that we pull the fight for public education away from DC and back home, to our schools and colleges. Let’s join with our students and parents and the wider community to defend our greatest invention – universal, free, outstanding public education for all.
Here is the information (which is also in the weekly, below)
March 4 Protect Students and Public Schools Day of Action
NEA is joining AFT, Moms Rising and the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools to engage activists around the country and stand up local actions and events to highlight the impact of threats to gut public education. The new webpage contains a step-by-step guide for creating local events including message guidance and background information on cuts to education. It also includes the link https://www.mobilize.us/nea/c/nea-march4-protectourkids/event/create/ to create and share events.
All of these materials can be found at nea.org/protect."
I am asking that you coordinate a meet up in the parking lot of your building and walk-in together before contract time. The purpose of these actions is to heighten awareness among members and parents dropping off their kids and potentially gain local press coverage. The message is that we stand up for our schools, fight for our communities, and protect our students.
Please touch base with your building rep to coordinate the walk in.
2. The Barnstable Administrators Organization (BAO) needs our help. They have been engaged in a lengthy contract fight and working without a contract for over seven months. Attached is a flyer explaining the main sticking points in reaching an agreement and some steps that can be taken to help. Most important is a solidarity action prior to the school committee meeting on March 5th. Please join the BAO and other supporters on the steps of Barnstable Town Hall at 5 pm on Wednesday, March 5th. We’ll all march into the meeting together at 5:30 pm. Please consider making signs that show our local Associations’ support for the BAO and wear your Union T-shirts if you have them. I hope to see you there. https://classroom.google.com/c/NjEzMzUzMjExNzIz/a/Njg5MTI4ODU3Mzc0/details
